Pop-Start-DAY22-GROOVE THEORY

Spring- it is finally here! I feel as though I was lost and now I am found:) Winter likes to slowly and methodically suck the life out of everything. First the trees go then before you know it you too are losing your leaves if you get my drift. Just when you think you can take no more- SPRING! Here is my love song to the season... well the Isley Brothers song redone by GROOVE THEORY. HELLO IT'S ME. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5Iw1Syl9X0

Pop-Start-DAY21-JANIS JOPLIN

I saw a headline the other day about a couple of sisters fighting over lottery winnings. Come on! You are more likely to be struck by lightening 100 times than to win the lotto and you SISTERS are gonna about how much of those millions you can get hands on. Listen, I can't pretend I know what is going on between these two but I know if you are one of the fortunate few to win a ton of money just shut up, buy a boat, and get on gettin on. 1971 JANIS JOPLIN- MERCEDES BENZ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-4AheUl6ls&feature=related

Pop-Start-DAY-20- ANTHONY HAMILTON

Mondays have become the new New Years Day for me. I set up all sorts of goals and expectations for myself. I fail miserably at half of them. Hey, but half of them actually get accomplished! So I claim even those failures as stepping stones to the world of Woo-Hoo! This is one of those...ease me into Monday songs that I really dig. Pop-Start-DAY 19-NORAH JONES

It's rather easy to forget to give our precious attention to those we love the most. They are always there. It's easy to be comfortable in that they always will be there. Whether this is true or not it is necessary to remember to pay them a little mind once in awhile. It's Sunday- a nice, slow day to relax into the embrace of the one you love. Pop-Start-DAY 18- FISHBONE

As I made my way through Menards and Lowes today I had a moment of "What the ----!" Who have I become? Am I seriously one of those 30 somethings pushing a cart around a home improvement center? I must be going through some sort of nesting thing. In the not so distant past, I would have laughed out loud that this would be part of who I would become. That I might actually like doing this stuff. You know what... I DO. I admit it. I'm not embarrased. However, just because I am in this new and unchartered territory in my life doesn't mean I can or should give up fighting for what I believe to be important in order just to appease the status quo. In order just to keep me and those around me comfortable. Sometimes comfort is one of those things that needs to be sacrificed to make sure our voices are heard. I may like to improve my home but the world where my home is needs some landscaping attention too. FISHBONE'S 1993 UNYIELDING CONDITIONINGhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHW_bptHz2A&feature=channel

Pop-Start-DAY17-STEVIE WONDER/PAVAROTTI

We laugh when a young Miss America or such says she wants to promote "world peace". Rather we let out a collective loud guffaw, me included. However, I am beginning to realize that if we all start to believe- to know- that the world will change... then it will. We are much more powerful than we realize. I see evidence of miracles every day. Here is one of them. 1998 STEVIE WONDER/PAVAROTTI PEACE JUST WANTED TO BE FREE. http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/luciano-pavarotti-and-stevie-wonder-peace-wanted-just-to-be-free-live/cc926f82d524ab879cfccc926f82d524ab879cfc-1639585153220

Pop-Start-DAY 16 -EURYTHMICS

Oh what a nice night of escape. Somehow, I believe, dreams not only give us a look into our subconcious but allow us into the world of the superconcious, if you will. The same rules do not apply to this world and that. Man, is it a trip sometimes. That made me sound as if I were straight out of the 60's. hmmm. Well this song is actually more from my generation. 1983 EURYTHMICS SWEET DREAMS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ9zycElysU

Pop-Start- DAY 15- MAZZY STAR

I think rainy days are God's/The Universes way of telling us to slow down and to think about what is truly important to us. To live in the moment. Sometimes our lives become such a blur of activities we forget to really be where we are and feel what we feel. Live your life... don't just get through it. My morning song today always has the effect of making me take a breath. I sit and be for a few minutes. MAZZY STAR'S 1993 version of FIVE STRING SERENADE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBgsMNqzq_0

Pop-Start- DAY 14- THE UNDISPUTED TRUTH

We all know not all people are to be trusted- yet we fall for their untruths pretty quickly. Despite being hurt before people fall back into relationships and friendships with people who have proven themselves to be untrustworthy. I have to admit, I have little patience with people who just don't learn. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.....The 1971 THE UNDISPUTED TRUTHS hit SMILING FACES SOMETIMES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wKyXA_nMVQ

Pop- Start-DAY13- BOB MARLEY/LAURYN HILL

It is hard to let go of the weekend sometimes. The days just seem softer and wider on Saturday and Sunday. Then we are pulled kicking and screaming into Monday morning, a growl on our lips before we even roll out of bed. Remembering that each day is a blessing isn't the easiest thing to do sometimes. Maybe if you try to put a little weekend flavor into the everyday. We humans are masters of self-delusion... so use it to your advantage. I, for example, am pretending that it is Saturday night in Jamaica this morning. 2000 BOB MARLEY/LAURYN HILL version TURN YOUR LIGHTS DOWN LOW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFKIN8P2hE8

Pop-Start-DAY 12- COMMODORES

Something about Sundays are so nice. So forgiving of my internal sloth. You, like me, probably have about 1000 things you should be doing but I don't do anything I don't truly want to do on sunday if I can help it. I really do want that 2nd monster mug of coffee. I really want to watch the food network instead of actully cooking and I really want to listen to the 1977 COMMODORES hit EASY.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgsDiufGVAg&feature=related

Pop-Start-DAY 11- ERYKAH BADU

I am feeling rather creative and clever today. I may pot a plant in a constuction workers hat. Maybe I'll write a song in Italian, after quickly learning Italian. I'll paint my toes red and wear sandals in the snow. Today I will just be me, crooked smile and all. Happy saturday beautiful people. Pop-Start-DAY 10-MEN AT WORK

As a woman who is lucky enough to come from an amazing family I had to devote todays blog to my Dad and brothers. They along with a couple of their friends are devoting their very precious energy and time to helping me out. I won't go into details but they are the hardest working people I have ever met and I am more than proud of them and so thankful. They are working on my basement and this song starting playing over and over in my head (probably to cover the noise of cement saws and jack hammers)1981 MEN AT WORK- LAND DOWN UNDER. basement, get it? tee-hee.http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/men-at-work-land-down-under-one-of-their-best-songs/e86ac5eb4a241a2488ffe86ac5eb4a241a2488ff-1483220582523

Feet in the grass, warm air brushes your cheeks. You smile. Spring... it always brings me back to those first moments of love. The excitment and anticipation of it. Remember it. Live it. Pop-Start- DAY 8- ANI DI FRANCO

We are told from the time we are barely out of the womb what is appropriate or inappropriate in life. The moulding begins right away. All of that scolding can really suck the spirit out of people. I struggle, as the parent of a toddler, with this all of the time. In my hand is a child who has yet to be ruined by society and all of it's supposedly founded ideals. ahh- I can only do my best to let him find happiness in his own ideals. I'm not saying all courtesy's should be thrown out the window but really who made up the rules? I don't know... wouldn't it be nice to simply be yourself and not have people give you the "side eye"? I guess the only option is to accept the "side eye" and do your own thing anyway. ANI DI FRANCO'S 1993 PICK YER NOSE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51o1wrDvKT8&feature=related

Pop-Start- DAY 7- D'ANGELO

Oh a nice long drive in the sunshine sounds like heaven. Sometimes it's the simple things.I deserve a little break. My husband definetly deserves a break. You know, sometimes it's not in the cards for a long vacation but you know we can at least try for a nice relaxing drive every now and then. Pop- Start- DAY 6- GNARLS BARKLEY

I have occasionally been accused of seeing life in a little different way than the average Sally. I have found if you just follow the pack all the time you end up angry and repressed and panic attack prone. Say what you think while remembering to be kind. People don't always see things the way you do and that is ok. Take a breath and remember we all look a little crazy if you look from a certain angle. Pop- Start- Day 5- MARC COHN

I won, my friends. 5OO bones. Hmmm-should I be responsible or completely splurge? Maybe a small splurge and the rest for a rainy day. I sang 2 of my favorite songs from youth and it payed off. I told you about Stand By Me yesterday. I can't leave out my other song which was Walkin' in Memphis by Marc Cohn. I loved this song from the first time I heard it. I had some passing dreams of moving to Memphis and being a blues singer. Hell- I'm only in my 30's you just never know. That is my favorite thing about life.... it has a way of surprising you. Thanks to those of you that came out in support of me:) Here it is from 1991... Walkin In Memphis http://www.mtv.com/videos/marc-cohn/58690/walking-in-memphis.jhtml

Pop- Start- DAY 4- BEN E. KING

Hey it's Saturday- leave me alone. I am a little late. Anyhoo- tonight I karaoke in the finals and I need you to send me your energy cause momma needs to pay some bills:) In honor of your standing by me, my friends, I will be doing Ben. E. King's STAND BY ME. I have a long running love of this song as my sister and I used to sing ourselves to sleep with this song as kids. Drove my dad absolutely bonkers with it. I'd always make my poor sis do the "bum, bum, bum" part. As adults we have staggered down a few streets belting it out after one too many vodkas. I still make her do the bum, bum, bum part. I should be playing Wind Beneath My Wings for you. NAH. Here is the 1961 song STAND BY ME. Enjoy- I know I do.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbg7YoXiKn0

Pop-Start DAY 3- JOE COCKER

Oh what a lucky girl I am. A night in the beautiful cabin. A book by the fire place a strong cup of coffee and 2 more days to look forward to. Today will be short and sweet. I woke up with this song in my head. I had to hear it so this is how my day began. The Letter-Joe Cocker http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RnjWLVyMps

Pop Start DAY 2- IKE AND TINA

Oh this morning is a rough one. 3 year old comes to bed and thinks 4 am is 7 am. Therefore, 8 am feels like 2 pm and I need a nap. Time for some major pumping up. Coffee- check, o.j. check-, extra coffee- check- check- now it is time for the big guns. I had to pull her out. All time amazing, tough, crazy, sexy chick. Tina Turner. Tina and Ike (jerk). This song is awesome for a morning where you just can't get moving. Starts off slow to ease you in then forces you into hopping around- jam out mode or is that the coffee. No. It is definitely this 1971 cover of C.C.R'S PROUD MARY http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/tina-and-ike-turner-proud-mary/3d0483041e19371ae85a3d0483041e19371ae85a-1714526159167

Pop Start- DAY ONE- THE DOORS

I've determined that the song I hear first thing in the morning really affects my attitude through out the day or at least throughout the morning. I've taken to making sure the first thing I hear is in accordance with what I need out of my day. For instance, it shouldn't make me feel ticked off. I won't name names as I am a positive person but eat a burger, get rid of the peroxide, and take some voice lessons. It should make me feel energetic and strike a note in me that puts a little heat under my seat and sets me on my way. I promise not to recommend Bobby McFerrin. I will guide you day by day on a journey with me through the last 5 decades on the most amazing rock, pop, soul music. I am not a mission to educate. I'm not equipped to anyway. I am not going to spend a lot of time on the history of musicians or bands. I just want you to join me in my morning ritual-my morning pop-start.

Today I began with the 1967 hit LIGHT MY FIRE by The Doors. They, being one of the most amazing bands in history, always put me in an electric mood if nothing else. Let yourself be taken away by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw40NMa_0RM
